Malissa is a Licensed Professional Counselor who has over 10 years experience working with families in transition. She believes every day is a new opportunity to create the life you want and deserve. Malissa holds a BA in Anthropology & African American studies, which has enabled her to connect with clients of all different cultural backgrounds. She has experience in social work and community development in Wisconsin and Minnesota before relocating to DFW to pursue a Master’s Degree in Counseling. Malissa completed her practicum study at Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship in Dallas and her internship at a nonprofit working with families in crisis. Most recently, Malissa served as a Lead Counselor for a hospital system’s OBGYN department and has appeared on several media outlets as an expert on several mental health topics.
Malissa’s strengths are in working with womens’ issues, empowerment, holistic care, marriage issues, financial counseling, youth and young adult transitions, wellness, spiritual development and career coaching.
Malissa uses a solution-focused approach to allow clients to overcome challenges to living their most authentic lives. She incorporates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Healing Centered Engagement, mindfulness and faith-based therapeutic approaches in working with clients to achieve their goals.
Malissa enjoys working out, reading, spending time with her family (including three teens and two fur babies), listening to music, volunteering and traveling to new destinations.
