Let's Talk About Limitations!

In life there is usually a limit for just about everything. In the general picture you have speed limits, time limits, age limits, credit card limits, and even society limits.
On a personal basis this will be more specific and vary across the board, but in the end they all have the ability to bound us someway somehow, if we allow them.
I have been a therapist and in the mental health field for almost 10 years. I have worked with folks from all backgrounds of life and across the lifespan.
Regardless of what someone comes to me dealing with, I often get the question, “will my life always be limited to what it is now? “. My simple answer is usually "NO".
My more complex answer, "if you allow it". Limitations are not permanent nor define us. Just like anything else in this life, limitations can be removed or adjusted, but limitations can also have its benefits.
With the world we live in now, you can modify almost any darn thing these days.
Regardless of how old or new it is, from a computer, car, gaming system, a cell phone, and even your spouse.
So why not readjust or modify your limits to make personal modifications rather than just going through life with the limits set and basics you started with?
Well, this is something personally you have to start with asking yourself. Then, weigh the pros vs. the cons on if you continued abiding by this limit, or decided to extend pass.
Feeling limited and confined within certain limits is usually a result of cognitive distortions.
It’s best to work through these things with a licensed professional where you can learn additional skills and have the support needed while you navigate this foreign area.
You will experience growth, and will no longer have to ask yourself “will my life always be limited to what it is now?”
